The photographers Houston Series sheds new light on familiar places
Published on April 23, 2008 at 1:40am
Photographer Bevin Bering has the ability to take the familiar and make it seem new and different. Her Houston Series focuses on local landmarks, including downtown skyscrapers, tree-lined streets in West University and well-known outdoor art. In City Hall, we see a picture postcard shot of the building, but shadows slash across the building, making it seem almost sinister. In Jones Hall, Night, Bering captures the roundness of the landmark structure. In Untitled 12, we see a statue of a woman, her arms outstretched behind her. Although its made of stone, Bering gives it a lightness and sense of motion. Interestingly, she includes no people in her shots thats for another series. Viewing hours for Houston Series are 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Mondays through Fridays, through May 6. The Corner Office, 1113 Vine Street, Suite 150.
