“Thomas Glassford: Between Earth and Sky”

The Sicardi Gallery hosts an exhibit by the former Texan

Laredo-born artist Thomas Glassford has exhibited extensively throughout Texas and Mexico, with some stops in France, Germany and Spain along the way. Now based in Mexico City, Glassford is coming to Houston to show his found-object art for “Thomas Glassford: Between Earth and Sky.”

Glassford’s colorful, light Dark Eyes is made of a bundle of metal rods standing on end. The rods are tied together at the base, from there spreading out like a water fountain. Both found and constructed objects — including large bones, glass and metal spheres, natural sponges, light fixtures and tassels — are strung together and hang from each rod. The result is almost whimsical. See “Between Earth and Sky” 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Tuesdays to Fridays, and 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturdays, through March 15. 2246 Richmond. For information, call 713-529-1313 or visit www.sicardi.com. Free.
Tuesdays-Saturdays. Starts: Jan. 19. Continues through March 15, 2008
