Ambient Austinites stop into Rudyard’s with Alkari and Hym Six

By Dusti Rhodes

Austin instrumental outfit My Education have an interesting résumé. Not only have the ambient rockers released a few nationally acclaimed albums, they’ve also created their own score for F.W. Murnau’s 1927 silent film Sunrise: A Song of Two Humans and collaborated with abstract hip-hoppers Dalek.

My Education recently released a 12” with Dalek appropriately titled My Education vs. Dalek. We have to admit we’re a little sad the two won’t be teaming up for today’s performance at Rudyard’s. No worries, though. My Education’s mix of spaced-out guitars, drums, bass, keyboard, viola and vibraphone sans vocals will keep fans of groups like Album Leaf, Maserati, Pelican or even Dalek attentive and appreciative. Alkari and Hym Six start things off at 10 p.m. Rudyard’s, 2010 Waugh. For information, call 713-521-0521 or visit www.rudyards.com. $10.
