Art quilters from around the world display their small-format work
Published on December 12, 2007 at 1:40am
Work by 50 artists from around the world is on display in Fine Focus 06, showing the incredible range and diversity of the art-quilt movement. Rice Bowl and Bird by Terry Grant is a literal interpretation; a small bird is perched on a rice bowl, chopsticks nearby. While each of the materials used in Rice Bowl is a different pattern, its really the textures created by Grants stitching that give the piece its depth. Last Magnolias by Linda Colsh is more symbolic; its a magnolia flower outlined over a patchwork of colors and patterns, including upside-down trees, their leafless branches becoming roots. Judy B. Dales and Kim Ritter curated Fine Focus 06 with Carolyn Dahl as guest juror. 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesdays through Saturdays, and noon to 5 p.m. Sundays. Through December 30. Houston Center for Contemporary Craft, 4848 Main. For information, call 713-529-4848 or visit www.craft-houston.org. Free.
Tuesdays-Sundays. Starts: Nov. 30. Continues through Dec. 30, 2007
